Planning: Mise-En-Scene: Casting

Dwayne is a 17 year old student. He enjoys sports and spends most of his spare time
on social media.
The part of Dwayne will be played by Sam Merrison. Sam is a good choice for this role as he is confident in front of camera and is able to follow instruction.

George is a 24 year old deputy head of sixth form. He enjoys sports and leading people. He spends his spare time watching football and on social media.
This part will be played by Lewis Molloy. Lewis is a good choice for this role as he is confident in front of camera and is more than able to follow instructions.

Planning: Mise-En-Scene: Location Planning

Shot 1 of our storyboard is an establishing shot showing the exterior of the school building.
When scouting a location for this shot we felt the outside of the school building would be suitable.

This location is easily accessible and will clearly establish the context scene for the audience.

Shot 2 of our storyboard will be of the corridor showing the outside of the room we are going
to film in creating a feel for where it is. When scouting we found that this location is suitable as it is easy accessible and shows clear context of the corridor.

Shot 3 of our storyboard will be in the Sixth Form computer room where we will be filming. When scouting for a location we found this very easily accessible and also extremely suitable.

Preliminary Task : Creating A Storyboard From Initial Ideas

In our lesson today we had created a storyboard by folding an A3 piece in to 12 squares and then we would take our preliminary task as raw footage and then cut it into 12 shots.

The 12 shot challenge was used to develop our knowledge to organise our task into an order.

Today we have learned how to turn raw footage into a formal order of shots and how to breakdown lots of footage, I also learned how to manage lots of footage in to less shots. The last thing we learned is how to organise a storyboard which will help us plan our music video later this year.

Foundation Portfolio : What Is It?

50% of your grade will be earned through your Foundation Portfolio. This consists of a preliminary task and a main task,
the details of which can be found below.

The Preliminary Task is designed to illustrate the processes of pre-production, production and post-production that
will be required, albeit in more detail, when you come to undertake the Main Task. The Preliminary Task is not
marked but MUST be completed and submitted alongside the Main Task to the examiner. If it is not completed,
marks are deducted from your Main Task.

The Main Task is marked out of 100. These marks are broken down as follows:

20 marks - Research into similar media products and planning of your own media product.
60 marks - Construction of your own media product including filming and editing.
20 marks - Evaluation of your own media product.

All of your work must be posted to your blog as this will be accessed by the examiner in May of 2016.

For each of the criteria above, marks are available in 4 levels with level 4 being the highest.

The progress thermometer below shows the key words for each level of the mark scheme.

This is what you have to do:
Preliminary Exercise
Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down
in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.
This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
Main Task
The titles and opening of a new teen horror film, to last a maximum of two minutes.
